Build your very own solar panels and start saving hundreds of dollars a year.
Ok, we've all seen the claims that you can make your own solar panels that will save you big on your power bills. Well that is exactly what I wanted to find out.
I ordered 5 sets of plans that would help me build my very own power station with solar. Since I'm not an electrician and quite frankly I can't even install a wall socket I figured if I could do it then anybody would be able to.
Concerns I had with homemade solar energy.
When I first started looking into building my DIY solar panel to produce electricity I was a little skeptical to say the least. I really had 5 major concerns.
- Will any of the plans really work?
- If any do work, are they safe? (I would hate to start producing solar power and end up burning down my house trying to save on my electric bill.)
- Would I really be able to build a solar panel? Like I said before, I'm no Bob Villa.
- Almost all the plans said I could build my panels for under $200, and find the parts I needed easily. Was this true or just a false claim?
- Last but not least, could I really save hundreds on my power bill with my newly built solar power generator.
Will any of the solar power plans really work and are they safe?
Since I'm not an electrician, how will I be able to tell if they are legit and safe. This was actually quite easy, since my brother is an electical engineer. So I sent him an email with a copy of all the plans I purchased with my list of concerns. After a few days he called me up and told me to get my money back on 4 out of the 5 sets of solar energy plans. I have to admit I started to worry I had been scammed, but he asured me that I did pick 1 set that was quite impressive. As he put it (safe and idiot proof). He told me to just follow the step by step manual and Even I would be able to build my very own solar panel. As far as the parts, just head on over to the local hardware store. |
Was I able to build my solar panels and save hundreds on power a year?
Well you bet I did, but it took me 1 weekends to get it built. It turned out to be a great project for my son and I. Did I save hundreds with my new solar energy panels? I have to tell you that all I really wanted to power was the Tv in our sunroom, which I figure cost me about $300 a year to run. So in just the first year after paying for the materials to build my panels and the plans I ended up saving $200 last year. I guess the real savings will now come year after year.
Would I recommend other people build solar energy panels for themselves?
You bet, but I would suggest you get the right solar power plans from the start. If you're interested in making you own power you should order the plans I used. You can get them by following the link below.
